Ross County
Ross County was formed in 1798 by proclamation of Arthur St. Clair, Governor of the Northwest Territory. It included a large part of what is now the State of Ohio. In 1800, the capital of the Northwest Territory was moved to Chillicothe, the present county seat. Chillicothe also served as the first capital of the State of Ohio from 1803 until 1816, except for an interval from late 1809 to 1812 when the state legislature met in Zanesville.
Gallia County
Located along the Ohio River in southeastern Ohio, Gallia County began as a haven for French settlers in 1790 and today is a getaway for travelers seeking a haven of their own.
Jackson County
Jackson County, Ohio is a county located in the U.S. state of Ohio. It is named after Andrew Jackson, a hero of the War of 1812 who was subsequently elected President of the United States. The county is known as "The Little Wales of Ohio" and has a rich history, including being a major producer of iron in the 19th Century
Pike County
On January 3, 1815, the Ohio government authorized the creation of Pike County. Residents named the county in honor of Zebulon Pike, an explorer and the man who discovered Pike's Peak. In the 1830s, upon completion of the Ohio and Erie Canal, the county grew quickly. Pike County is located in southern Ohio. It is predominantly rural, with one percent of the county's 441 square miles consisting of urban areas. The county seat is Waverly.
Vinton County
Nestled in the scenic Hocking Hills Region of Southeastern Ohio, Vinton County is a small community with great potential. Vinton County was named for Whig Congressional leader Samuel Vinton of Gallipolis. The county seat of McArthur took its name from Duncan McArthur, an army general in the War of 1812. Vinton County’s wooded hills and natural beauty make it one of Ohio’s most rural scenic areas. With numerous state parks, state forests, and a portion of the Wayne National Forest, Vinton County is a premier destination for outdoor recreation in Southeastern Ohio and is ripe with economic development opportunities.
